Staff and pupils at Flimby Primary School are celebrating this week after receiving a ‘Good’ Ofsted report following a visit from inspectors in February.
The school has been described as ‘at the heart of the local community’ and has been praised for its positive relationships with pupils, strong safeguarding culture and well-designed curriculum.
The report also found that: ‘pupils are well mannered and behave well in lessons and around school. Lessons are calm and purposeful and pupils are curious about what they learn.’
Leaders have high expectations of what pupils including those with SEND, can and should achieve and pupils achieve well at the school.
The report also acknowledges the effective governance and leadership at the school, stating that: “Trustees and governors know the school well. They provide effective support and challenge to leaders. Staff well-being is a priority. Staff feel valued and are proud to work at the school.”
The consistent approach to the teaching of reading was also praised by inspectors, who said: “Leaders have ensured that staff have the subject knowledge that they need to deliver the phonics programme effectively. Pupils read books that match the sounds that they have learned. This helps pupils to become confident, fluent readers.”
Headteacher, Tanya Peers, commented:
“I am extremely proud of the staff, children and community with such a positive Ofsted report. It is fantastic to read that our pupils are proud to be part of our happy and caring school, at the heart of the community, and that they are confident that teachers will not let them down. We are excited about the next steps for Flimby Primary School as we continue to strive to improve.”
This is the first Ofsted inspection Flimby Primary School has received since converting to academy status in September 2020 and joining the Changing Lives Learning Trust (previously named West Lakes Multi Academy Trust). The school was previously judged to be ‘Good’ in January 2018.
Judith Schafer, Deputy Chief Executive of Changing Lives Learning Trust added:
“Changing Lives Learning Trust is thrilled that Flimby Primary has been recognised as a Good school by Ofsted, at a time when the benchmark for Good is higher than it has ever been. We are very pleased that the hard work undertaken by the staff, both teaching and support teams, and of course the children, has been acknowledged and praised. We are also pleased to read that the inspectors recognised that the school is supported and challenged by the wider Trust and governing body, that staff are happy and proud to work at Flimby, and that staff wellbeing is a priority for us all. The report has also picked up on the many elements of effective and ambitious provision at Flimby, and the strong leadership which is pushing the school forward.”
