🎒Free Early Learning for 2‑Year‑Olds – Check If You’re Eligible!🎒
Did you know your 2‑year‑old may be entitled to free early learning and childcare? There are two main ways families in England can qualify:
👶 1. For families receiving certain benefits
Your child may get 15 hours of funded early learning if you receive support such as Income Support, income‑based JSA or ESA, Universal Credit (with household income under £15,400 after tax), Pension Credit, or certain tax credits. Children who are looked after, have an EHC plan, receive Disability Living Allowance, or have left care may also qualify.
👨👩👧 2. For working parents
Eligible working parents can also access funded childcare. From September 2025, working parents of 2‑year‑olds will be able to claim up to 30 hours of free childcare from the term after their child turns 2.
💡 What’s covered?
Funding covers your child’s early learning hours. Providers may charge separately for things like meals, nappies, or trips, but these must not be a condition of taking up a funded place.
📲 How to apply
Applications are made online depending on which scheme you’re eligible for. You’ll receive a code to give your childcare provider so they can secure your funded place.

If you think you might qualify, it’s a great time to check—your child could benefit from fantastic early learning!
Here at Thornhill Primary School we offer childcare from 2-years old - feel free to get in touch and we would love to have a friendly chat and show you our provision.
